Even if you
eat good food, your body is able to derive maximum benefit
only if you give it to your digestive system in the most
easily digestible form by chewing it well. After all you are
not really what you eat but rather what you digest and absorb!
Fruit juices can not only nourish the body but also heal.....
Are you like most members of our species in this day
and age? In your hurry towards Wawasan 2020, are you chewing
your food like nature intended? Does food leave your mouth
bound for your stomach in a slurry of finely meshed particles
suspended in saliva for digestion or is it a poorly and
hastily chopped up glob of food?
When you really think
about it, digestion actually begins in the mouth! For optimal
absorption of vital nutrients, solid food should actually be
liquid by the time you swallow it. However, we rarely take
time to 'mastricate' our food they way Mother Nature would
like us to.
This places undue burden on our digestive
tract. No where else in that 30 or so feet of your digestive
tract is there a mechanism to break down food like the teeth
structure in the mouth. If you do not chew your food, the
digestive system has to undergo a greater effort to digest
this food. Quite often, the food is not absorbed well. This is
really a shame. Even if you eat good food, your body will only
derive the maximum benefit when you chew it well. After all,
you are not really what you eat but rather what you digest and
absorb!
Inadequately chewed food also tends to stay a
lot longer than necessary in the gastrointestinal tract. This
overstaying food then tends to rot. The by-products of this
putrefaction process can lead to long term consequences. No
wonder the number of gastrointestinal related complaints in on
the rise!
Thanks to modern technology, a new verb has
now appeared in the health care lexicon: to "juice" food is to
liquefy it. This is easily done with an ingenious motor
appliance that is lying in your kitchen. This gadget is called
(aptly enough) a juicer. To prevent or heal a variety of
common health problems (see table), many authorities recommend
juicing.
Drinking the raw vegetable and juices make
the vital vitamins, minerals, trace elements and enzymes
readily available and easily assimilated directly and easily
into the upper digestive tract. These effects are preventive,
therapeutic and revitalising.
